Jenny Hirst, Senior GIS Specialist at Groundsure, ran the TCS London Marathon to raise funds for her chosen charity Asthma + Lung UK. Amongst over 53,000 participants, she navigated the demanding 26.2-mile course through London, passing iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, The Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, and Canary Wharf.

The 2024 TCS London Marathon, the largest in history, saw over 53,700 finishers and set a new world record by raising £67 million for various charities. Jenny, who has managed asthma for two decades, prioritises her health while staying active. Her daily routine includes ensuring her inhaler is as essential as her keys and phone before leaving home. She’s learned to anticipate triggers, whether it’s laughter, sprinting for a bus, or the chill of fresh air, which can prompt inflammation in her lungs, leaving her breathless. Despite these challenges, Jenny’s determination and commitment to her cause shine through her marathon efforts.

Jenny speaks passionately about her chosen charity and the marathon states:

“Asthma + Lung UK are the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe and with environmental pollution on the rise this subject could not be more topical.”

The London Marathon was INCREDIBLE, how the joy and privilege of the day overwhelms any pain I experienced.  The crowds were phenomenal and if you take it all in and absorb their energy, they really do get you round and make it such a magically day. Thank you very much for your donation and support.”

Jenny expressed gratitude for the support she received from the Conveyancing Foundation and the donations from colleagues and friends. The Conveyancing Foundation Charity Grant Scheme, the first of its kind in the property industry, provided Jenny with a grant of £500, The grant boosted Jenny’s fundraising total to over £3,031, surpassing her initial goal of £2,000.

Emily from the Asthma + Lung UK Marathon Team said “Thank you so much for your support and the generous donation, from all of us here it’s very much appreciated.”

Jess Smith, Conveyancing Foundation COO and Trustee, conveyed her admiration for Jenny’s achievement and congratulated her on behalf of the Foundation. She also highlighted the significance of the Charity Grant Scheme in enabling individuals within the industry to support their fundraising objectives and generate funds for charitable causes.

“We are proud to be able to support Jenny in her fundraising efforts for Asthma + Lung UK. Jenny’s remarkable feat goes beyond managing her asthma daily; she tackled a physically demanding marathon while raising a significant sum for charity. With the support of our generous Partners, we look forward to awarding many more Charity Grants in the 2024 and enabling many in the industry like Jenny to achieve and surpass their fundraising goals.”
