Newport legal practice spearheads UK-wide fundraising revolution
A Newport-based conveyancing firm has spearheaded an UK-wide industry fundraising revolution in 2015, raising thousands of pounds for charity.
Convey Law, which employs 80 people at its Newport HQ, devised its own fundraising scheme to raise money for their chosen charity, Ty Hafan.
The Charity Lotto works by offering each client the chance to make a £10.00 donation to enter a competition at the end of their property transaction with Convey Law. The clients are then entered into a monthly prize draw and the monthly winner receives a refund of their legal fees – up to a maximum of £500.00 per transaction – which is sent to them immediately following the prize draw.
The competition has proved hugely popular with Convey Law clients and has helped raise an incredible £321,000.00 for charities so far, including Welsh children’s hospice Ty Hafan, with £50,000.00 being raised in 2015.
Fundraising via the Charity Lotto has been so successful, the Conveyancing Foundation charity has been established to help Conveyancers throughout the UK fundraise for their favourite charities, with the potential to raise thousands more pounds for worthwhile causes every year.
Convey Law members of staff are also keen individual fundraisers, with groups from the company having taken part in the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge, the Taff Trail Cycle Challenge, Ty Hafan ‘Rainbow Runs’ and a London to Brighton cycle this year.
Convey Law Conveyancer, Geraint Aubrey, also took on his own epic ‘Matterhorn Challenge’ in September, scaling four huge mountains in the Swiss Alps, culminating in the iconic Nount Rossa – the second highest mountain in the Swiss Alps – standing at over 4000 meters, to help raise money for the Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice.
Convey Law was recognised for its contribution to fundraising earlier in the year at the IoD Wales Awards when Lloyd Davies, managing director at Convey Law, was named winner of the Director for Leadership in Corporate Responsibility award category.
Speaking about their fundraising record in 2015, Lloyd Davies, who is also Chairman at the Conveyancing Foundation, and will take part in an epic charity cycle ride from Cardiff to Dublin in February, said:
“I am immensely proud of the Convey Law team. Their passion for fundraising is really inspirational, and everyone takes part in some way. I am also delighted to have received such incredible support from the UK conveyancing industry this year in raising funds for the children and their families at the Ty Hafan hospice – thank you all for your generosity and kindness.”
